Baba Marta is hurrying again!
For the second year running, the Refugee Project is organising a fun run in support of refugees in Sofia. It will take place on 27th February in Borisova Gradina and everyone is invited!
The run celebrates the age old Bulgarian Baba Marta holiday, a date on which Bulgarians exchange red and white bracelets to wish each other health and happiness over the coming year.
Like martenitsi, running is good for your health - starting off the year with a run (or at least, a walk) around our short course will get participants off to a healthy start! You’ll also receive fun t-shirts and accessories to dress up as the traditional characters Pizho and Penda, which should put everyone in a good mood and attract attention from passers by!
However, there is more to this run than just having fun. The aim of the Baba Marta Run is to raise awareness about our project and about the situation of asylum seekers and refugees in Bulgaria - we expect our colourful runners to attract a lot of media attention on this special Bulgarian holiday! And, of course, we want to raise money so that we can continue our valued activities in the refugee centres in Sofia. All funds raised through the event will be used to buy materials for the different workshops and activities that we organise with refugees.
If you want to support us, put on your running shoes and a big smile! All participants will gather at the stage in Borisova Gradina at 11:00 on Saturday 27 February. A t-shirt and other accessories are included in the registration fee, and the first three women, men and children to cross the finish line will receive unique handmade martenitsi medals.
Register to participate in the run HERE! (Deadline for registrations is 28.02.2015г.)
The event is realized with the support of Experian, in co-operation with Sofia municipality and Sofia - European capital of sport for 2018.
